Evening Series Course England Art - Power and Resistance

Art in England, as much as anywhere, has always reflected prevailing structures of power, wealth and access, as well as values of taste and beauty. From the perspective of 18th century monarchical France, for instance, English culture - from dress to gardens - expressed inherently democratic, free-thinking values. Seen however from Ireland or other colonies, the art of England - from houses to portraits - communicated, by contrast, elite power and oppression.

Term: October 2024 to March 2025

Day/Time: Tuesdays 6.30pm to 9.15pm
